Even though the imperial era in Vienna lies in the past, craftsmanship of imperial quality still exists today: the (former) k.u.k. court suppliers.
In the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a producer, service provider, or merchant could call themselves a k.u.k. court supplier if they had special permission to supply goods and services to the imperial court in Vienna.
The “imperial and royal court suppliers” covered nearly all trades — from jewellers to glass manufacturers, confectioners, tailors, hat makers, gilders, piano makers, and many more.
As in other European monarchies, the title of court supplier was the highest distinction and one of the very first seals of quality.
